About UPS

With service in over 220 countries and territories, UPS shifts more than 24 million parcels every single day, making it the world's leading package carrier by volume.

UPS Tracking Status Codes Explained

Label Created
The sender has generated a UPS shipping label but hasn't yet handed the package over. The status will update once UPS takes possession.
Shipped / On the Way
The package is moving through the UPS network with a scheduled delivery date. It may stay in this state during long-distance transit.
In Transit
Your package is travelling between UPS facilities on its way to the destination.
Out for Delivery
The package is with a driver for final delivery today — typically between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. for homes, by close of business for commercial addresses.
Delivered
The package has been successfully delivered, with a timestamp recorded. Drivers leave items in a safe spot if no signature is required.
Delivered to a UPS Access Point
Your package is at a UPS Access Point location and ready to be collected at your convenience.
Transferred to Post Office for Delivery
UPS has handed the parcel to USPS for final-mile delivery. This may add a day or two to the original estimate.
Exception
An unexpected event has affected the scheduled delivery date — weather, an incorrect address, or a customs issue. Check the tracking detail for specifics.
Failed Attempt
A delivery attempt was made but couldn't be completed. UPS typically tries again the following business day.
Returned to Sender
The package is being sent back to the original shipper after delivery wasn't possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out where my UPS parcel is?

Type your UPS tracking number into the field above and select "Track Now" to pull up real-time delivery updates.

What is the format of a UPS tracking number?

Standard UPS numbers begin with "1Z" and include 16 alphanumeric characters after that — for instance, 1Z999AA10123456784. UPS Mail Innovations has its own separate 22-digit format.

Is there a way to track a UPS delivery without a tracking number?

Yes. UPS My Choice members can locate incoming parcels using a reference number or their delivery address instead of a tracking number.

What do the different UPS tracking statuses indicate?

"In Transit" tells you the parcel is moving through UPS's network. "Out for Delivery" means it's already loaded on a truck headed your way. "Exception" flags an issue holding up the shipment.

What hours does UPS make deliveries?

UPS Ground runs from 9 AM to 9 PM Monday–Friday, plus Saturdays for home addresses. Next Day Air arrives by 10:30 AM or 3:00 PM, depending on which Express tier you booked.
